In response to the COVID-19 crisis, Canada's Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, and Canada's Minister of International Development, Karina Gould, have announced a commitment of CAD300 million (US$215 million) to support poorer countries in immediate need of humanitarian and development support.

This funding commitment was announced at Global Goal: Unite for Our Future – The Summit, a virtual fundraiser to support the most vulnerable people impacted by COVID-19 globally.
